Entering the word

You can enter the word that you want to translate in any of the languages supported in Freedictionary. You must then choose the appropriate source language that corresponds to the language that you entered the word in.

Try Clicking the arrow symbol =style/swap2.gif and see what happens!

Choosing the right translation

After clicking Search, all possible translations appear. Now you can browse the results by clicking the vocabulary links.

Writing in foreign languages

In Windows XP – operating system the Russian writing support is downloaded by following these instructions:
  • Start → Settings → Control panel → Regional settings
  • → Languages:Properties … Add: Russian

The same instructions apply also to other languages,e.g. Polish and Turkish, which contain foreign symbols.

The Japanese support is downloaded by the same way, but in addition to other settings the “Add language support for Easten –Asian languages” part must be marked.

In the GNU/Linux –system the Japanese writing support is gained by downloading packets FreeWNN or Canna and kinput2. Follow the packets´own instructions. The same kind services are offered also in other packet, like Scim.

If you do not wish t download anything to your computer, you can use the multilingual keyboard -web-service, that you can find with your search engine, or by coping the characters/symbols one by one from a document containing these characters/symbols.
